NBR Predictions (2009)

Another column I’m adding for all the smaller predictions – particular critics awards like NBR, BFCA, NYFCA and LAFCA, SAG/DGA/WGA, and the Golden Globes – because I like making them as well. The NBR (National Board of Review) is actually pretty extensive, so I’ll purge into their tradition with suitable predictions for each of the categories I value (which will be more than most because I’m going to add the “Top 10 Indie Films” category), so here’s to predictions!

07. A Single Man
08. Sugar
09. Sunshine Cleaning
10. Tetro

Just as a note, all of the lists after the winners (picture, indie film, foreign, documentary) are done alphabetically. That’s about it – I’ve nothing to justify anything with. Sometimes they put indie films in Best Picture and vise-versa, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see The Hurt Locker or Precious be kicked out of the Best Picture list and put in Best Indie Film (like Rachel Getting Married and The Visitor got last year), but Precious’ income and directorial style will probably make voters go “Probably not all that indie”. So yeah, good luck if you’re predicting as well.
