My Thoughts on the Winners:

Best Picture - Excellent. My #1 cannot stop winning these major categories. I completely love it!

Best Director - Even though the film is my favourite of the year, I think the direction of two others is better. Still, I really love that the Coen brothers look like they’re going to grab their first Best Director win along with their first Best Picture win.

Best Actor in a Leading Role - Daniel’s speed is picking up ever so rapidly now. After a few days of skepticism, he’s fallen into his place with critics. As of now, it looks like it’s down to him and George Clooney for the win.

Best Actress in a Leading Role - It’s starting to appear as if Julie Christie has this film in the bag. Maybe some last minute award grabbing from Cotillard will help her come back into the race. If not, it looks like Christie has won.

Best Actor in a Supporting Role - Bardem has offically won the Academy Award. He’s only lost in this category once, and that was to a man who has a 0.5% chance of being nominated for the award.

Best Actress in a Supporting Role - Amy Ryan… It was amusing at first. Amusing the second time. Now it’s just sad. What do critics honestly find so mesmerizing about this performance? I certainly cannot figure it out for the life of me. Do they like white trash?

Best Screenplay - The screenplay of No Country for Old Men wasn’t what made it so good, so it would barely make my top five of the year in this category. I guess New York just wanted to let No Country for Old Men bask in the glory of winning their second screenplay award of the year.

Best Documentary - From the looks of it, it’s really down to Sicko and No End in Sight. I will be picking this film up shortly to see what all the hub-ub is about.

Best Foreign Feature - Why would they even bother giving The Lives of Others this award? It gives us literally no insight into this year’s Foreign Feature race. Literally.

Best First Film - Away from Her was a pretty good film. I also can understand why this film would win the award over Tony Gilroy’s Michael Clayton or Tamara Jenkins’ The Savages. It’s all about riding the wave that is Julie Christie. At least Sarah Polley is getting some good exposure thanks to it.
